Tong Jin joined Schaffer Carter & Associates in 2017 as a paralegal while a student at University of Houston Law Center. During his clerkship, he began to sharpen his investigation and litigation skills from the finest criminal defense lawyers. After passing the bar exam in 2018, Tong joined the firm as an associate.  He is a zealous advocate for clients in both federal and state courts and is involved in a multitude of cases; including a vast array of criminal matters; from import violations to capital murder. He is also involved in a variety of civil matters; such as complex commercial disputes between publicly traded companies. In the time that he has been at Schaffer Carter & Associates, Tong has managed document coordination and e-discovery in a complex fraud investigation that resulted in the recovery of over $1,900,000.00 in stolen funds and assets.
Being a proud immigrant, Tong knows how difficult and stressful getting involved in legal proceedings can be for a foreigner. Combining his experience of working for the University of Houston Immigration Clinic, with his knowledge of criminal law, Tong provides an assessment of immigration consequences in connection with criminal charges and has a passion for helping international students, scholars and immigrants accused of committing crimes.
Before joining Schaffer Carter & Associates, Tong clerked for multiple public interest organizations, the government of the City of New York, and a prestigious Chinese international law firm, in its Shanghai Office. Tong provides legal services in both English and Chinese.
